NWMGA 4 Ball Trophy - Sunday 3rd August at Bury Golf Club

Congratulations go to Dave Jolley and Andy Hirst, who were crowned the NWMGA 4 Ball Trophy Champions yesterday with a fantastic 48 Points.

The day started at 7.30 am with players unfortunately teeing off in the Rain, which stayed with the field for the vast majority of the morning making scoring that little bit harder for the Early starters, but it was no surprise when the perennial ‘Voucher Collectors’ Mr Captain and Ian Marsh rolled in with 44 Points, which held the top of the leader board for about 3 hours until a Couple from Rochdale (Playing with The Chairman and Tom Cooney) came in with a Great score of 47 Points. Which would have won on any other day. The weather cleared, the sun shone, and the wind increased for us afternoon starters. It would be fair to say we had the best of the weather, and so it proved, as Dave and Andy surpassed the 47 with their 48 points. Unbeknown to Dave, Andy was aware of what was in as he could not contain his own excitement at how well they were Playing, stood on the Tee on 18 knowing 2 points would be enough – and he felt the nerves as he knocked it straight left and OOB, Dave who was oblivious to what was going on as usual, calmly hit the fairway, then the green and 2 putted to get the 2 points required. Now unbeknown to most, and whilst those in the morning may have had to put up with the worst part of the day, Andy and Dave had to put up with ‘Whirlwind Wilcock’ who never shut up moaning about the bunkers he went in at Blackburn on Friday – and I know as we could hear him as we went out behind him!!!

Massive thanks to Ian Foulkes and Garry Shoreman for doing the starting in horrible conditions, Matt in the Kitchen, Zoey and Jane Behind the Bar, John and Nicci for opening early ‘For a Pint’ – Craig and James in the Shop for booking in and getting them out - Les / Tim on Comps for adding Visitors to the system and doing the results quickly yesterday – Lady Captain for polishing the Trophy(s) and making them look more than gleaming and Presentable – The NWMGA President (David Watts) Mr Captain and the President for their attendance as part of the Presentation Party, Dave and his Greens team for a great presentation of our Course yesterday, and finally thanks to all the members that supported the event yesterday and for your co-operation over the last few weeks – Thank you all again.

The Next NWMGA Event will be the Seniors (55+) at Rochdale GC on Wednesday, 27th August. A list will be put up for adding your names over the coming days, located in the Foyer.
